I hope this doesn't sound ignorant...I've so enjoyed reading all your comments about the Chambers stove from you enthusiasts!
We just bought a house with a Chambers B. We adore it, and have used the griddle, stovetop and broiler (not the thermowell yet, but I'm ready!)
However, I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong with the oven. I can turn on the gas (by turning on the level labeled 'oven'). I can adjust the temp with the dial. But I can't light it - the gas just goes and goes and I can't figure out how to light the oven.
I know it works because the previous owners used it all the time, and I don't think it stopped lighting in the four days since they've been out and we've been in!
Can anyone provide me with instructions or a diagram and tell me where the dang button is! I got the Idle Hour cookbook but it doesn't help.
Thanks!

You need the Service Manual
Here's how:
1. Open the oven door.
2. Get your match or butane lighter ready.
3. Set your Thermostat to the desired temprature.
4. Light your match/lighter.
5. Turn on the Oven Gas Valve.
6. There is an opening in the front center area of the Oven Floor. Take your match/lighter and place the flame there. The Oven burner should light. If it does not, shut off the gas IMMEDIATELY and write back.
7. If the Oven Burner lights, you're home free.
You REALLY need the Service Manual, as it tells you how to calibrate the Oven Burner (and all of the other ones, too) and the Oven Bypass Flame.
Let me know if you need one...

Welcome to the clan of the B's. You have been assimilated. All others will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
But seriously, congrats on buying a house with a Chambers, AND being of the mind to appreciate the treasure it is.
I started out with only the cookbook, and I loved figureing my stove out without the manual, and REALLY loved it when I finally got the manual.
I recommend you get the manual ASAP to fully enjoy and understand your stove. Also, get the cookbook.
It's a great stove to look at, cook with, and dote over. Hope you enjoy it.
